Tawny Trouble reviews swoop in

May 21, 2025 By Deb Fitzpatrick

It’s always nerve-wracking when a new book comes out. What will reviewers think? How will they react? Well, I’m happy to say that the reviews coming in for my latest junior fiction book, Tawny Trouble have exceeded my hopes.

‘Warm, funny and full of heart. Plus, Deb really gets how kids think: curious, kind, a little awkward and totally ready for adventure.’

—Better Reading

‘This simple story about a family rescuing an injured bird has a lot to offer, a lovely location with issues such as conservation and the importance of wild places to learn about Australian wildlife. […] Readers of Kelpie Chaos will enjoy this warm animal tale.’

‘A cracker.’

—Gleebooks Sydney

‘If you liked Kelpie Chaos, you’ll love this one too. […] These short, high-engagement junior fiction novels by Deb Fitzpatrick […] have immediacy … There’s complexity to the story […] There’s a lot going on in them. […] Well done, Deb, loving your work with these.’

—Your Kids Next Read (podcast episode 198)

Thank you to all readers and reviewers for seeing so much of what I hoped to capture in Tawny Trouble. May your walks in the bush be abundant with tawny frogmouth sightings and the rustles of many other wonderful creatures!
