Diving in: a radio interview

February 26, 2024 By Deb Fitzpatrick

I had the pleasure of chatting live on air with ‘Freo-verse’ co-host Miles Openshaw on Radio Fremantle last week so am sharing a short excerpt of the interview here (with huge thanks to Wild Dingo Press’s marketing guru, Rachael McDiarmid!).

The interview gave me a chance to reflect on the joy of writing about maritime archaeologist, Maddy McAllister (better known on the socials as @ShipwreckMermaid), whose story is the latest in the Aussie STEM Stars series, published by Melbourne’s Wild Dingo Press. Maddy’s story is full of adventure and is genuinely inspiring. It encourages kids to pursue their interests and fascinations and see where these take them!

The crew at Radio Fremantle have generously followed my writing career over the last 14 years and Miles did a wonderful job of putting me at ease and giving me a stack of time to delve deep into Maddy’s story and my bigger writing journey — thank you so much, Miles!

To hear the whole interview, head to https://radiofremantle.com.au/shows/freo-verse and select Friday 23 February 2024. My bit starts at 54 minutes and runs for about 20 minutes, with some cool tunes in the mix.
